Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Mary Dick, Mrs Alexander Pringle (1766-1849) by Richard Cosway RA (Tiverton, Devon 1742 - London 1821). Oval. 1780. Head and shoulders portrait of a young woman, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a white dress with blue ribbons. Brown eyes, long powdered hair in ringlets, pale (faded) complexion. Pale blue background. Companion to BHH/PM/004. Biographical details on the back. 1780 (circa).
Provenance
Painted in 1780. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
