Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Isabella Caroline Clarke Perry Ogilvie, Mrs William Marshall Ogilvie (b.1792), attributed to John Cox Dillman Engleheart (1783 - Tunbridge Wells 1862). 1720. Oval. Head and shoulder portrait, turned to the left, gazing to the left, in an old rose dress edged with white lace. Blue eyes, brown hair drawn in ringlets and pink complexion. Plain drab green background. Inscribed - Painted by Engleheart MEA.Marshall m.1805 Thornton Benthall (inscribed on back in ink), note second inscription in another hand. 1720 (circa).
Provenance
Painted in 1720. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
