Summary
Coffee can saucer (paired with 509438.2), cornflower sprigs painted in magenta and blue with green foliage, plain blue encircling border and gilt dentil edge. Chamberlain decorated. Unusual version of 'Cornflower Sprigs' pattern. Inscribed with “CAUGHLEY BICENTENARY SHREWSBURY 1772-1972” on a gold printed label on the underside. A red sticker with “387” on it is on top of the gold sticker. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by the Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
