Summary
Spoon tray of oval form, the shaped rim with six small projections. Printed in underglaze blue with the 'Fence and House' pattern with associated cellular and butterfly border around inner rim. Rim edged with gilt. Inscribed with a gilder’s number “16” on the underside. On a gold label is printed the following “CAUGHLEY BICENTENARY SHREWSBURY 1772-1972”, with an additional red circular label on top with the number “52”. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by the Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
