Summary
Plain circular tea bowl sauce, raised on foot ring. Accompanies tea bowl on record 509410.1 . Printed in underglaze blue with the 'Fenced Garden' pattern, associated cellular and butterfly border around inner rim, added gilding. Inscribed with an “S” printed mark and an “X” in underglaze blue on underside. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by the Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
