Summary
Baluster shaped mustard pot, raised on foot ring and missing cover. Printed in underglaze blue with the 'Travellers' pattern, with supplementary print of a peasant woman and child in a landscape, below double band around neck. Inscribed with a printed mark “S” in the underglaze, in blue. Gold label on base with “CAUGHLEY BICENTENARY SHREWSBURY 1772-1972” printed on it. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
