Summary
This item is a large urn-shaped pearlware soup tureen. It has a scalloped edge with gadrooned borders and double scroll handles, with dome cover surmounted by gilt flowerhead finial. It is transfer printed in blue and over enamelled with insects amongst flowering plants. Inscribed - Floral (transfer printed mark in a wreath of flowers in underglaze blue to underside of tureen and cover). Made circa 1820. Part of 75 piece dinner service.
Provenance
Made in England circa 1820. Owned by Miss Phoebe and Miss Rosemary Waterfield and presented by them as a gift to the National Trust at Easter 1975, for display at Benthall Hall.
