Summary
A historic clock system comprising of a Chair frame tower clock with rumboidal pendulum. Made and signed by Wm Leigh Newton May 14th 1814. Turret Clock located on the north front of the house. The workings are displayed on the top corridor north opposite the Turret Clock Room (textile store). William Leigh. Brass setting dial engraved 'William Leigh, Newton, May 14th 1814'. Fitted with a paddlewheel, dead-beat escapement and a countwheel controlled hour strike. The pendulum is set to the left hand side of the clock movement and is impulsed through a vertical crutch rising above the clock movement with a horizontal connecting rod linking the crutch to the pendulum rod. Indiginous to the house. Gifted to the National Trust by Lord Newton in 1946.
