Summary
A stool cover dated 1725-50, made from undyed, unbleached linen canvas worked in cross-stitch and embroidered with silk and wool (dyed to full range). Design of a scene with red ground and floral border, central pastoral scene with two figures, a man in a yellow coat and a woman with a pink coat and hat, standing either side of two sheep. Two dalmations underneath the figures amongst the foliage and a central blue and white urn.
Provenance
Breton-Tayler Collection. Given to the Trust by Mrs Winifred Breton Tayler, 11.4.2000, after remaining within the Breton family for nearly 300 years.
