Summary
A stool cover dated 1725-50, made from undyed, unbleached linen canvas worked in cross-stitch and embroidered with silk and wool (dyed to full range). Design of a scene with red ground and floral border, central pastoral scene with three figures to the left, one holding an urn on top of her head. Buildings and a flock of sheep to the right, one sheep inscribed with the initials 'MB'.
Provenance
Breton-Tayler Collection. Given to the Trust by Mrs Winifred Breton Tayler, 11.4.2000, after remaining within the Breton family for nearly 300 years.
