Summary
A rectangular panel/fire-screen dated 1725-50, made from undyed, unbleached linen canvas worked in cross-stitch and embroidered with silk and wool (dyed to full range). Intricate design of a central classical scene with red ground with floral border, a group of five standing figures surrounded by foliage. A sheep in the floral border below and birds in the foliage above the figures.
Provenance
Breton-Tayler Collection. Given to the Trust by Mrs Winifred Breton Tayler, 11.4.2000, after remaining within the Breton family for nearly 300 years.
