Summary
Print, line engraving, Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford (1593-1641) with Sir Philip Mainwaring (1589-1661) (after Sir Anthony Van Dyck) by George Vertue (London 1684 - London 1756). 1739. A three-quarter length engraved portrait of two men, set in an interior with a landscape visible through a window behind. Central man with short dark hair and a moustache wearing long velvet coat with white collar showing. He is seated on a chair his right arm resting on the chair arm, his left holding a piece of paper. The second man has short curly hair, a moustache and beard and is wearing a shirt underneath a cloak over his shoulders. Seated at a table holding a quill in his right hand, this rests on a piece of paper, his left arm leaning across the table. Inscribed with 'The Right Honourable S[.r] THOMAS WENTWORTH Bar[.t] Earl of STRAFFORDE'.
