Summary
Oil painting on canvas, William John Legh, 1st Baron Newton (1828-1898) by George Richmond (Brompton 1809 – London 1896), 1878. A three-quarter-length portrait, of a middle-aged man, in profile to right, with short brown hair, moustache, and long side whiskers, wearing a brown double breasted frock-coat, white shirt with standing collar and black bow tie. On his right hand, he wears a ring on the little finger and holds a cane, while his left hand rests on a stone balustrade. He stands in a landscape of moorland, trees and hills with overcast sky.

Original to the house. Listed as hanging in the Grand Staircase on the 1879 inventory.
