Summary
An eight-day, striking spring clock with centre sections and equation dial in ebonised case; made by William Dunant. An ebonised bell-top case with two brass carrying handles either side and cast brass frets lined with green silk flanking the arch; five finials and standing on brass bracket feet. Brass break arch dial plate with shell and scroll spandrels; silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and numbered five minutes to the edge. Annual calendar aperture and equation dial in dial centre, two subsidiary dials in the arch; pierced blue steel hands and the seconds hand terminates in a crescent moon.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
