Summary
A George III miniature eight-day English musical striking spring clock. The case is veneered with red tortoiseshell and mounted on twin scroll ormolu feet, with ormolu pilasters to the angles and frets to the sides; the bell top is applied with scrolls, finials and carrying handle. A brass breakarch dial with tune selection dial in arch. Matt central dial with name plate, square calendar aperture and blued steel hands; surrounded by a narrow silvered chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and Arabic five minutes. Foliate-engraved backplate.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
