Summary
An eight-day longcase clock with hour striking in a walnut case with glazed sides to hood; made by George Graham. Burr walnut veneered case with flat top, pierced fret lined with red silk and brass capped columns; trunk door with moulding, escutcheon and brass hinges. Square brass dial plate, gold laquered with mask and scroll spandrels, silvered brass chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and Arabic five minute figures around the edge. Smaller seconds dial inside chapter ring numbered 5-60; square calendar aperture and blue steel hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
