Summary
A month-going, spring clock with hour striking and pull quarter repeating in ebony veneered case; by Thomas Tompion. Ebony dome-top case with glazed front and sides and carrying handle with pierced brass decoration to the top and sides; two decorative escutcheons. Square brass dial with scrolling spandrels and silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and minutes numbered 5-60. Two subsidiary dials flank the top of the chapter ring with pointed hands. Engraved square calendar aperture and blue steel hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
