Summary
An eight-day, striking spring clock with calendar dial in ebonised case; made by Georges Heyes. An ebonised fruitwood inverted bell top case with gilt brass carrying handle and glazed sides. Break arch dial plate with gilt mask and scroll spandrels, silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic five minute numbers. Arch flanked by two red silk lined pierced frets and lunar calendar and annual calendar dial (astronomical dial) with Roman numerals in arch; square calendar aperture.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
