Summary
A seventeenth century eight-day, pendulum spring clock by Ahasuerus Fromanteel. Ebony veneered case with pediment top and glazed front and sides; front with escutcheon. Fire gilt, brass dial plate and silver chapter ring with Roman numerals flanked by geometric flower shapes. Minute circle engraved with 0-60 twice around the dial. Blue steel hands with pierced decoration.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
