Summary
An eight day striking/musical spring clock with automata. Ebonised fruitwood bell-topped case, with brass mounts to the front and sides; urn finials and handles to the top. Brass skirt to the base and brass scroll-feet. The brass break arch dial with painted automaton depicting a musical scene; flanked by brass spandrels. Subsidory dials in upper corners read 'Chime / Not Chime' and Air / March / Minuet / Song. Gilt brass beetle and poke hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
