Summary
An eight-day quarter-striking musical bracket clock by John Taylor, circa 1790. The mahogany break-arch case with pagoda top and five brass ball-finials; fluted half brass-lined quarter columns, brass 'fish-scale' frets, carrying handles and ogee bracket feet; mounted on a matching mahogany bracket with inverted brass ball-finials (LYM.H.009.2). The silvered-brass face with two subsidiary dials in arch, inscribed 'Chime / Not Chime' and 'March / Dance'.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
