Summary
A miniature eight-day, striking and quarter repeating spring clock in ebonised case; made by Claudius de Chesne. Ebonised fruitwood, inverted bell-top case with brass carrying handle, pierced silk lined frets, ball and spike finials; standing on brass bracket feet. Break arch dial with moon phase and semi-circular plate, cherub and scroll spandrels and silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals Arabic five minute figures; two subsidiary dials flank the chapter ring. Square calendar aperture and day of the week aperture inside chapter ring; blue steel hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
