Summary
An eight-day, spring bracket clock with Dutch striking, in an ebony veneered case; made by Thomas Tompion. Ebony dome-top case with glazed sides and back, with brass globe finials and carrying handle; standing on brass bun feet. Square brass dial plate with winged cherub spandrels, silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and minute circle engraved with 5-60. Blued steel hands and hour hand with pierced decoration.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
