Summary
A month-going, spring bracket clock with Roman striking in ebony veneered case; made by Joseph Knibb. An ebony dome-top case with glazed sides and back, with four gilt ball finials and carrying handle with a brass cherub head below; standing on brass bun feet. Square brass dial plate with winged cherub spandrels, skeletonised silver chapter ring with Roman numerals and minute circle engraved with 1-60. Blued steel hands and engraved, square calendar aperture.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
