Summary
An eight-day, musical striking spring clock; made by Wagstaffe. Oak and pine case with brass mounts, carrying handles either side, four urn finials and two glazed panels to the top; standing on brass feet. Arch-top with painted brass dial plate with painted shutters over an automated scene of a battle with two drummers and mounted troops passing by in the arch. Convex white enamel dial over dial plate with chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic five minute figures; blued steel hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
