Summary
An eight-day, quarter striking and repeating spring clock in burr walnut case; made by William Webster. A burr walnut veneered, dome-top case with oak carcass, brass carrying handle and four urn finials; frets to sides and standing on brass bun feet. Fire-gilt brass breakarch dial plate with female figure spandrels, silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic five minute numbers around the edge. Smaller dial in arch with a central star motif; square calendar aperture in dial centre and pierced blue steel hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
