Summary
A month-going, Dutch-striking and repeating longcase clock in a walnut case; made by Thomas Tompion. Walnut veneered case with dome top hood with pierced frets, brass capped columns and two urn finials; glazed sides and top and plain trunk door with moulding. Square brass dial with mask and scroll spandrels and fire-gilt dial plate. Silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, smaller dial inside chapter ring and square calendar aperture; pierced blue steel hands.
Provenance
Bequeathed for display at Lyme Park by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh, on his death in 1984. Part of an important collection of clocks acquired by Major the Hon. Sir Francis Legh (1919-1984), the youngest son of the Third Lord Newton.
