Summary
A pair of nineteenth century gilt-brass, or ormolu, oil lamps, this one with three lights. The lamp has a central urn decorated with garlands mounted on a gadrooned body with foliate finial, from which three short straight branches emerge. Chains attach to three lion masks with handles; these connect above to a circular acanthus mount with a crown of feathers. Converted to electricity c. 1903 with white 'flame' glass shades.
Provenance
Original to the House, this lamp can be seen in an early twentieth century photograph of the Bright Gallery (See 'Interiors' file). It was returned to Lyme in 1980 following its purchase by the Trust from Christopher Wrays.
