Summary
Tapestry, wool and silk, A Coronation, Flemish, possibly Oudenaarde, c. 1600-1625. In the centre a king places a throne on the head of a queen. To the right a woman plays a harp, and to the left two men watch. There are borders at the top and bottom with leaves and garlands and oval cartouches in the centre, but the top border is a re-applied side border. The tapestry is unlined and has a number of patches on the reverse. This piece has the same borders as no. 494832, ‘An Enthroned King’, and no. 494837, 'Fragment with Women and a Soldier', and they are probably part of a set.
