Summary
A beech chair, English, circa 1710 - 20, once painted or ebonized. With an arched scroll-ended and scroll-filled cresting above an arched cane panel in a moulded surround. The rear uprights ball-, baluster- and column-turned and topped by turned finials. The cane seat in a moulded surround and raised to the front on a pair of scroll-carved 'horse-bone' type legs joined by a scroll-carved and pierced arched stretcher. The side, central and high rear stretcher turned. -- This chair is punched with the initials, or mark, MxM, probably the initials of the caner.
