Summary
An oak mule chest, English, mid-to late 18th century. The hinged lid with moulded edge above a chest with show dovetails and with two short drawers, fitted with brass bale-handles and escutcheons. With base moulding and bracket feet.
Provenance
Date of acquisition recorded as 1980, suggesting that it was at Canons Ashby when the National Trust acquired the house. However, it is possible that it was the '18th century oak mule chest' purchased for £275 from South Bar Antiques in March 1984, prior to the house opening to the public.
