Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Emma Hutchinson, Mrs Sedgwick (1857 - 1936) by Frank Samuel Eastman (Anerley 1878 – fl.1940), 1935. A half-length portrait, seated, hands folded on her lap; wearing a purple stole with a fur collar, and a white lace dress underneath.
Provenance
The sitter's brother, James Hutchinson, was Earl Brownlow's agent, who bought Grantham House (of which she had been a tenant since 1884) in 1921, and bequeathed it to her in 1924. She left it to her spinster daughters, Winifred and Marion Sedgwick who gave it and its contents to the National Trust in 1944-50.
