Summary
A painted pine or deal and marble side table, In the manner of William Kent (1685-1748) London, probably circa 1730. With a Verde antico marble top with outset corners, the base with a Vitruvian scrolled frieze and central female mask to the apron flanked by linen swags topped with exotic fruits, the scrolled cabriole legs carved with scale decoration and with acanthus shoulders, raised on turned feet.
Full description
A similar example was supplied to Wanstead House, Essex (now at Wilton House, Salisbury). The entire contents were sold together with the house which was subsequently demolished in 1822. See: 'William Kent, Designing Georgian Britain' for further discussion. (James Weedon, January 2020)
