Summary
Yellow Siena and white Carrara marble, Chimneypiece with Ionic columns and a central mask head. Dated c.1755-60. The chimneypiece is similar to a chimneypiece formerly at Northumberland House, London, which has been attributed to Joseph Pickford who supplied chimneypieces to Egremont House, Piccadilly. It was installed by the 2nd Lord Leconfield in 1878-9.

A yellow Siena and white Carrara marble fireplace with a central plaque in the style of John Cheere (d.1787).
Provenance
By descent, until the death in 1952 of the 3rd Lord Leconfield, who had given Petworth to the National Trust in 1947, and whose nephew and heir, John Wyndham, 6th Lord Leconfield and 1st Lord Egremont (1920-72) arranged for the acceptance of the major portion of the collections at Petworth in lieu of death duties (the first ever such arrangement) in 1956 by H.M.Treasury.
