Summary
A mahogany armchair, from a set comprising a pair of armchairs and a pair of chairs, circa 1790, in the manner of George Hepplewhite (poss. 1727 -1786), the typical shield-shaped back with a pierced splat and issuing scrolling arm-rests on out-swept supports, above square-section tapered legs joined by stretchers, covered in red damask. The design of these chairs can be compared to Hepplewhite's designs published in the "Cabinet Maker and Upholsterers Guide" (1788).
