Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Swaledale Sheep and Ram in profile, William Taylor Longmire (1841 - 1914), signed T.Longmire, c.1860-1880. A sheep at right and a ram with horns at left, both with cream fleece and white and black faces and legs, facing each other in profile. Standing on grass with a small leafy plant in the middle. A blue sky with mountains on the horizon.
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust from the wife of the last owner of Townend, Mr Oswald Hedley, at the same time the house was accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of estate duty and transferred in 1947.
