Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Jeremiah Pierce Crane (d.1823), by George Engleheart (Kew 1750 – Blackheath 1839). 1789. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a deep blue coat with high collar, three silver buttons, frilly white cravat. Blue eyes, powdered hair, fresh complexion with vigorous linear modelling and shadows, lit from the left, aged about 40. Sky background. Married Penelope Blathwayt c.1789. Sitting in Engleheart's studio 13 April 1789 for 10 guineas. (Marked on card old no DYR.D.1). Companion to reference DYR.MI.16. Inscribed on frame - Jeremiah Crane whose son William assumed the name of Blathwayt alone/obit 1823. 13.4.1789
