Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, An Unknown Lady,1759, perhaps Elizabeth Clark, Mrs William Blathwayt III (1719-1764), by Samuel Cotes (London 1734 – Chelsea 1818). 1759. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a woman turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a yellow dress with white lace and blue bows, pearl necklace and ear-drop. Blue eyes, powdered hair dressed with blue ribbons, pale (faded) complexion. Plain blue-grey background. Signed S.C, and dated 1759. Top left miniature of five in case no.2, 12.50 in. (Old DYR.P.4.b).
