Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, An Unknown Lady, 1758, perhaps Sophia Blathwayt, by Samuel Cotes (London 1734 – Chelsea 1818). 1758. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a woman, turned to the right, head turned to the left, gazing to the left, in a blue ermine-trimmed dress with a blue bow at the breast, pearl necklace and ear-drop. Light brown eyes, dark hair dressed with pearls and a plume, pale (faded) complexion. Slate-grey background, darker to the left. Possibly daughter of no.13. Ivory. Signed S.C, and dated. Top right miniature of five in case no.2, 12.50 in. (Old DYR.P.4.b).

Indigenous collection purchased by Ministry of Works in 1956 and given to Dyrham Park in 1661
