Summary
A marquetry inlaid secretaire on chest or scriptor on chest, English, circa 1700 The upper section with a moulded cornice and cushion frieze drawer above a hinged fall enclosing a fitted interior, the lower section with two short and two long drawers raised on later bracket feet. The whole inlaid with floral marquetry designs, the fall having an oval panel. Brass fittings replaced. Illustrated in Symonds, R.W. Provenance
Frank Halliwell purchased it from Hart of Dover who held it on behalf of Mrs Hatry, after the crash of 1930, the fraudulent Clarence Hatry having bought it from M. Harris the owner in 1923, when illustrated plate X11 by Symonds in old English Walnut and Lacquer Furniture.
