This is a cutting taken from a choral book, or other manuscript. It shows a scene from the boyhood of Christ, possibly showing him blessed in the Temple on the return from Egypt. He is shown standing on a table, or altar, in the centre, supported by the Virgin and St. Joseph. St. Anne stands beside the Virgin.
Summary
Illustration on vellum, illuminated initial 'S': the Boyhood of Christ, Lombard c.1470. The Holy Family appears within a scroll decoration of pale blue, green and pink, with stylized pomegranates, some of which are continued beyond the border. The Child stands on a table in the centre, wearing a white embroidered smock; he is supported by the Virgin, left, and St. Joseph, right; St. Anne stands beside the Virgin. Gold background.
