Oil painting on canvas, Archibald Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton PC, KT (1812-1861) on Horseback by George Henry Laporte (Hanover 1799 – Paddington 1873), 1840-1850. A full-length portrait, riding to the left, wearing a pink coat and turning to face the spectator, on a dark bay hunter; beyond him on the left are two hunt servants with hounds; in the distance, right, stands a house.
Provenance
Bought by Lord Bearsted for Leggatt Bros. in April 1926 for £200, as "Lord Eglington [sic] on Emerald, at Sandford Hall", by J.E. Ferneley; given with Upton House to the National Trust by Walter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted (1882 – 1948) shortly before his death, in 1948
