Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Village Fair (possibly an Auction of Horses), attributed to Luke Clennell (Morpeth 1781 – London 1840). The Bell Inn, left, with a group of figures, unsaddled horses, a hound and a man with a wheelbarrow; in the centre, beneath an oak tree, a shepherd and sheep; on the right two children are buying apples from a woman wearing a red cloak and blue skirt; beyond, on a village green, a horse fair is taking place. There is a sign of an elephant over the door to the adjacent building.

Given with Upton House to the National Trust by Walter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted (1882 – 1948), in 1948, shortly before his death
