A pair of large rosewood high-back open armchairs, Portuguese, circa 1700, each with arched back and seat covered in brass studded embossed leather, the arms on ring-turned baluster supports, on block and baluster legs joined by a pierced interlaced scroll-carved front stretcher.

An armchair of very similar design, but in walnut, can be found in the Museum-School of Portuguese Decorative Arts in Lisbon, Inventory 56, catalogued as Portuguese, 17th century.
