Summary
One of a pair of Chelsea-Derby candlestick groups, this one described on the front of the scroll base as 'The Cock and Jewel'. A cockerel is in colours; a chicken in white with feathered strokes in red and mauve and a chick on her back and another under her wing; a chicken in colours pecking at another squatting bird with flapping wings painted in tones of mauve on white ground. The background is flowering may tree supporting a pair of candle nozzles. 1770 - 1775
