Summary
Tapestry, wool and silk, The Sacrifice of Isaac, La Marche, c. 1550-1600. A landscape with the small figures of Abraham and Isaac in the centre. Abraham, about to slay his son Isaac, is stayed by an angel dressed in blue who holds onto his outstretched arm. There is a further small figure group at the lower right, and on the left part of an altar with a fire burning on it, suggesting that the tapestry was once part of a larger piece. There are borders on all four sides with fruit and flowers on a yellowish ground. The left hand border may have been re-attached.
