Summary
Soup plate, ironstone china, lobed rim and deep circular well, Ridgway, Morley, Wear & Co, Broad Street Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, 1835-42; decorated in the 'Hicks Rock and Bird' pattern, transfer printed in black with underglaze blue, enamelled with orange-red, green and blue enamels, at the centre a large chrysanthemum flower and branch of flowering prunus, to the right a scholar's rock, a bird in flight above, simple printed border to edge of well with double scalloped line and stars/flowers, around the well a print centred on a large flower with tendrils and blooms repeated three times, to the edge of the rim a repeated looping border pattern coloured variously in pink, red and underglaze blue.
