Summary
A coverlet, embroidered on white silk fabric with polychrome couched silk floss outlined with metal thread, with a floral and ribbon design and featuring a central medallion of a shepherd and a lion (probably the shepherd David defending his flock from a lion, from the Old Testament, 1 Samuel 17), Italian, early 18th century, the embroidery cut out and remounted onto a new fabric with new trimmings at some point during the late 19th century.
