Summary
Limewood, carved applique panel, a dove with cornucopia and wheat, probably late 17th century. A rectangular frieze depicting a dove in flight between two cornucopia of flowers, shamrock swags and sprays of wheat. The frieze was most likely carved by a regional wood carver working in the Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721) style. It was likely installed around 1688 when Belton House was first being furnished by 'Young' Sir John Brownlow (1659-97). Alice Rylance-Watson December 2018
