Summary
Limewood, carved and stained applique wall drops depicting fruit, flowers, foliage with ribbon ties, probably late 17th century. One of a pair of wall drops carved in the style of Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721), most likely rendered by regional wood carvers. Although no archival evidence connects these to a craftsman or other wood carving schemes at Belton House, they were probably installed around 1688 when Belton House was being furnished for the first time by 'Young' Sir John Brownlow (1659-97).
